60th birthday event
A reminder that our official birthday event is 4.30-8.00pm this Thursday 22 October. Students will go home (or OSHC) at the end of the school day as per their family’s regular arrangements, but then all students are encouraged to return to the school with their caregivers/families anytime from 4.30pm onwards. Even if your family have other commitments during the evening, you can still pop in to check out the student art display and grab a bite to eat! Formalities will take place between 5.30 and 6.00pm and a number of COVID safe protocols will be in place, including sign-in sheet for art gallery entry and hand sanitisation stations around the school.
School closure day – Friday 23 October
The day after our 60th Birthday celebration, Friday 23 October, is a School Closure Day.
Working bee
If you can spare an hour two of your time between 8am and 1pm this Sunday 18 October we would love you to help out at the working bee to prepare our grounds for Thursday’s big event! Some gardening and maintenance tools will be available, but feel free to bring your own if you are willing and able.
Sports Day
We are currently investigating a date to reschedule sports day, with Week 6 looking most likely. More info to come!
Girl inside
On Wednesday, a number of classes attended Girl Inside, an original musical production by Benji Riggs that was put on in our school Gym by The Flying Elephant Company. The live performance explored the difficulties children face when navigating the reality of growing up, with Annabella – the hero of the story – feeling trapped inside herself and alone, while struggling with her own mental wellbeing. Annabella was presented as a role model that young children can look upto to discover their own inner strengths and overcome adversity, an important message, particularly given the unprecedented challenges our students have faced this year due to the covid-19 pandemic.
Sammy-D Foundation True Colours Program
On Thursday, our two year 5/6 classes kicked off their involvement in True Colours, an eight week program aimed at reducing bullying and violence in local communities. This pilot bullying and violence prevention program being run by the Sammy D Foundation across a number of SA Primary Schools during 2018-2020 has been funded by our Department for Education. Following a powerful presentation from the Sammy D Foundation – Neil Davis, students involved started planning in small groups to explore a topic of their choice relating to bullying and violence within our local community. During the program students will learn about the critical inquiry research process, and will develop their research topic, collect and analyse data and develop recommendations to address their chosen issue. We look forward to the student groups presenting their projects at the end of this term and helping to promote this important initiative.
Have a great weekend and hope to see you all at our 60th Birthday event on Thursday afternoon!
